All regional winners receive a $3,000 scholarship and could win more when statewide award recipients are announced at the annual Bryant-Jordan banquet April 10 in Birmingham. Jacob’s perseverance and tenacity are major reasons he’s one of 52 regional winners in the Bryant-Jordan Scholarship Program’s Achievement category, which honors senior AHSAA athletes who have overcome personal adversity to excel. He didn’t have a home, much less a hometown.ĭespite essentially having no relationship with either of his birth parents, Jacob found stability at Georgiana and has thrived as a three-sport athlete for the Panthers’ athletic program with dreams of playing college basketball and becoming a physical therapist. Once back in Georgiana and attending high school, Jacob was eventually placed in foster care and endured a long, complicated adoption process amid fears he’d be shipped off to live with family members in Texas or Ohio. He later moved four times in a single school year, including spending several months in Arkansas. His family ping-ponged between Ohio and Alabama throughout his elementary school years, leaving him with few friends and faltering grades.
